Image             Recently, during a Wednesday night Bible study we were discussing what true faith is.  I thought one of the responses I received was absolutely perfect.  They said, “Faith, to me, is taking one more step beyond the light you see only to find out that each step you take past the light there is actually more light…that’s the way God works He builds upon the faith we have.”  Man I’m telling you that still gives me goose bumps to even type it.

Let me explain it this way.  Have you ever been at home and the lights go out and it becomes pitch dark?  Were you afraid to take a step while it was dark?  I have been in this situation and I had faith in myself to find my way to the closet where the flash light and candles were.  I understand there is a difference between biblical faith and fleshly faith…but what I’m trying to point out is that you just know your way around that dark house because you trust yourself and you know exactly where everything is.  It’s that step of faith beyond what you can see that makes our Christian faith special.

You know my friend hit the nail right on the head when he explained it that way.  There’s no doubt in my mind that many people miss the concept of what true faith is.  It’s believing that God can do anything according to His will. It’s actually, believing what we don’t see but hope for.   It’s believing in God…the one and only God who can accomplish anything that is ultimately for the betterment of the Kingdom.

After we discussed his statement about taking that next step beyond the light; someone reminded the group that Jesus showed this exact faith when He prayed…Mark 14:36

“And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.”

You see, it’s that type of faith that Jesus portrayed that we must radiate in our everyday lives.  We can’t continually ask why not Father. We have to accept that His will is perfect and that our understanding of what’s best for the Kingdom might not always be what’s truly best for us.  I, personally, believe that God is faithful and what I don’t understand or can’t explain isn’t necessarily important.  What I do believe is I need a savior, that being Jesus Christ.  We must focus on what is relevant, again that being Jesus, and not what we don’t know because if we focus on the latter we will miss so much of what we actually do know.

There are several verses found throughout the Bible that teach us about faith and how we should, as Christians, display that faith in our daily walk.  Here are just a few…

Matthew 17:20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you. “

Hebrews 11:1

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Ephesians 6:16

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.

There are many more verses I could highlight, but my point is….Faith is what carries us, lifts our spirits, softens our hearts and ultimately brings us to the understanding of who Jesus is, what He did for us, why He had to die, and that through Him all things are possible.  We can’t run from what we can’t see.  We have to run to it… taking a step beyond the light we know.  Do you have that kind of faith to take a step past what light you see?

Be blessed and always be a blessing
